Many people feel anxious in social situations. It can be exhausting to try to fit in, to hide your true feelings, or to mask who you really are. For anyone who experiences social anxiety, crowds, bright lights, noisy environments can quickly become overwhelming. These moments can make you feel isolated even when surrounded by others. Reading or hearing about experiences like this can help you understand that you are not alone. Anxiety, masking, and sensory overwhelm are common experiences, and acknowledging them is the first step to feeling calmer and more in control.

A Freind of mine asked me to share this poem as they felt it may help someone

else not feel so alone.

I love it and want to thank her for being brave enough to share

The Poem: What should I do?

There are so many people.

What will they think?

What will they see?

A great big disgusting lump of a person.

Oh, that is me.

There are so many people.

What will they think?

What will they hear?

A small confused voice with nothing to say.

There are so many people

Can they see how I feel?

My clothes feel too tight.

I cannot breathe.

I’m gonna vomit.

I need them to leave.

My throat is constricting.

What if I faint?

I continue to smile.

I can’t let them see,

I can’t let them know.

These humans around me, all bubble and light,

what do they chat about as they stand in the night?

Do they talk of adventures?

Do they talk about work?

They are starting to laugh now,

Can they see through my mask?

If reading this poem resonated with you, know that you are not alone. Many people experience social anxiety, masking, or sensory overwhelm, and it can feel exhausting to cope on your own. Hypnotherapy can help you manage these feelings, feel calmer in social situations, and reconnect with your true self. If you struggle with anxiety, overwhelm, or the pressures of masking, reaching out for support can make a real difference. You deserve to feel understood, safe, and confident in your own skin.
